Book Club: DeTransition Baby by Torrey Peters Mar 18

“Torrey Peters’ sharp, tender, and provocative debut has sparked wide cultural conversation for its unflinching exploration of gender, womanhood, desire, parenthood, and what it means to build a life that feels livable when the available scripts don’t quite fit. The novel asks difficult, intimate questions: Who gets access to womanhood? What does family look like when it’s improvised rather than inherited? How do love, regret, longing, and responsibility shape our choices?

This is a bit of a controversial pick, but rather than treating DeTransition, Baby as a novel with a single thesis or takeaway, we’ll approach it as one that resists moral certainty and invites us to sit with complexity, contradiction, and discomfort. This is a book that opens space for conversation rather than closure.

We’ll gather at Anaïs Wine Bar, whose warm, intimate atmosphere offers an inviting setting for a thoughtful, nuanced conversation. Expect good wine, thoughtful dialogue, and a space where curiosity and care lead the way!

🎟️ Standard Ticket includes drinks, refreshments, and guided programming. Event ticket includes access to the discussion.”
