KAWS: On Art, Culture, and Building an Icon

“Join us for a glimpse into the visionary mind of pioneering artist KAWS, as he looks back on decades of his creative evolution across art, popular culture, and the work that made him one of the most influential artists of his generation.

Few artists have shaped the visual language of a generation the way KAWS has. From bus shelter takeovers in 90s New York to sold-out product releases, monumental sculptures, and major museum shows at SFMoMA, Brooklyn Museum, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and more, his work has rewritten the rules of where art belongs and who it belongs to.

Collaborations with Dior, Nike, Comme des Garçons, Uniqlo, and Pharrell sit alongside paintings and sculptures held in major museum collections. Characters like COMPANION, BFF, CHUM, and ACCOMPLICE have become emotional shorthand for a global audience, representing love, loneliness, friendship, and longing.

In this In Conversation event, KAWS will walk through the artwork, decisions, and turning points that built his career: the early advertising interventions, the paintings, the collectible toy editions, the globe-trotting HOLIDAY project, and every moment in between that shaped the work.

Expect the story straight from the source, the references that matter to him, and a rare look at how one of the most influential artists alive built something the culture could not ignore. “
