🧠 Lecture: "Nuclear Weapons 101"

🎤 Speaker: Nuclear Weapons Policy Expert, Andrew Facini

We might have left the nuclear anxieties of the 1980s behind with the end of the Cold War, but the nuclear threat never really left us. With rising wars of aggression, rapid advances in technologies like AI, and eroding global norms and constraints, are we edging closer to nuclear conflict? Solid maybe. But it’s still up to us to make sure we don’t get there—and that starts with understanding these weapons: how they work, what they do, and where they might show up next.

Andrew Facini is a nuclear weapons policy expert and Communications Director at the nonpartisan Council on Strategic Risks, as well as a Senior Fellow in The Janne E. Nolan Center for Strategic Weapons. His work focuses on American nuclear policy, China’s evolving nuclear doctrine, and how culture shapes our views of nuclear conflict.

In this accessible, eye-opening lecture, you’ll learn what nuclear weapons are, how they’re made, what they can do, and what it all means for our shared security. You’ll leave with a clearer sense of how nuclear weapons shape our world today—and how we might just get ourselves out of this mess.”
