Short Story Masterclass with Stephanie Wambugu: Force & Brevity

Because a great short story can hold an entire life in just a few pages. Join author Stephanie Wambugu for a short story masterclass exploring the craft and possibilities of short fiction.

The seminar centers on close reading of Robert Coover’s hypnotic story Going for a Beer, a piece that condenses the sweep of a marriage and a lifetime into just a handful of pages. Through discussion and analysis, participants will examine how Coover creates such narrative depth within a brief form.

Students will then bring these insights into their own writing, considering how short fiction can be as ambitious, forceful, and emotionally resonant as a much longer work. It’s a thoughtful session for writers interested in the power, precision, and possibilities of the short story
